Last November we discussed an increase in the number of people commuting to Norfolk. With a campaign to reduce the journey time on the mainline between Norwich and the capital, it is hoped that this will boost visitors to the area. As a result, many local businesses are investing in the products and services they offer to make the most of the potential increase in trade.
One of those businesses is the Station Hotel on Riverside Road in Norwich, a client we were delighted to assist with a £700,000 refurbishment during 2015. The project took 5 months to complete and was an excellent opportunity for us to demonstrate the full range of skills we can offer as part of our refurbishment service. This included:
- Plastering throughout the hotel
- Decorating both internally and externally, including 18 ensuite bedrooms and all communal areas
- Carrying out the installation of a new plumbing system, including the installation of 17 new bathrooms
- Rewiring the entire building
- Installing new carpets throughout
- Replacing windows where necessary
- Installing new furniture
- Replacing the existing roof structure
Raising Awareness of East Anglia around the World
At the moment there significant investment being put into promoting Norwich and the surrounding area to visitors, including both those in the UK and from around the world. For example, £150,000 is being spent this year in an effort to increase the number of Dutch tourists visiting Norfolk and Suffolk by 5% – a potential boost of £2.3 million to the local economy.
It is estimated that during 2014:
- Almost 200,000 overseas visitors contributed £100.8million to the Norfolk economy
- £86.1million was spent by overseas visitors in Suffolk
“Tourists from abroad are an extremely valuable growth opportunity for Norwich. Overseas visitors spent more than £16m in Norwich in 2014 and the number of tourists who arrive in the UK is growing. Visit Norwich’s strategic partnership with Visit Britain allows us to target messages about Norwich’s enticing offer directly to overseas visitors who want to enjoy our extraordinary shopping, heritage and culture.” – Nick Bond, Visit Norwich’s Head of Tourism.
