Location: Norwich
Project Awarded By: Kier Eastern
Specialist Paints Used: Crown Clean Extreme
Project Duration: 3 Months
Having previously worked on projects with Kier, they were already aware of the quality of our workmanship. Upon being awarded the City College Norwich contract, they approached us to enquire if we would be interested in tendering for the work.
The project saw the construction of a 590m2 single storey building at the rear of the existing Norwich Building. The new building helped to create learning space for students with profound and multiple learning difficulties. It features a large classroom area fitted with individual learning stations; as well as individual changing rooms, wheelchair storage space and personal suites.
As part of the work we were asked to carry out all internal decoration for the new building. With City College Norwich having an existing relationship with Crown Paint already in place, we were therefore asked to use their Clean Extreme range of paints. These scrubbable matt paints offer durability and longevity, with easy stain removable resulting in extended maintenance cycles and reduced redecoration costs. All of the colours for this project were guided by the City College and chosen to create a vibrant environment for disabled students, those who are partially sighted and those with learning difficulties.
Whilst plastering was not part of our original remit, we felt it necessary to bring to the attention of the project manager defects in the plasterwork. As a result, before commencing painting, we were asked to carry out patch plastering and concrete preparation. Whilst these repairs were not essential, the removal of these defects ensured that we were able to achieve a high end finish.
Every member of staff we sent to work on this project was CSCS accredited. Where it was necessary to use mobile scaffold towers to complete the decorating, these were operated by staff who had received additional IPAF training.
