As a commercial painting and decorating firm, over the years we’ve been able to evolve rapidly in the industry and work with some of the largest and well-renowned construction companies, including Kier. Due to our positive working relationship with Kier, we were asked to carry out a large project at City College Norwich.
Facility for Disabled Students City College Norwich was founded in 1891 and has evolved into one of the most popular further and higher educational establishments in Norfolk. As part of the campus improvement programme at the college, the renovation of Broadland Drive has finally been completed including the improvements of a new landscaped area as well as a 573m sq single storey building which BMA had the pleasure of painting.
The new building has been refurbished for learners with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) and will be home to a large classroom area with individual learning stations specifically designed to support those with complex needs. There will also be room for individual changing rooms, wheelchair storage and personal care suites.
The Project Matt Watling, the Kier Site Manager for Kier Eastern, provided us with the project brief, requesting BMA to carry out the external decoration package to the new build and refurbished areas of Broadland Drive. The work commenced at the beginning of February 2015 and was completed by May 2015, ensuring it was completed in time for the opening of the building in September. The paint specified and applied for this project was Crown Clean Extreme Durable Acrylic Eggshell and Crown Satinwood, creating a light and airy atmosphere for the students. The Broadland Drive project was a one off project at City College Norwich but we are looking to work with Kier Eastern on future projects.
Mr Watling commented on the project, saying: “The project team have thoroughly enjoyed their time working on the City College Norwich campus and would like to thank the staff and students for their patience whilst we have been carrying out our works on the Happisburgh, Norwich and PMLD buildings. It has been a pleasure working alongside the campus users and we hope that they enjoy their new facilities.”
